After sadly losing our beloved senior rescue "chiweenie" Honey in April, our 17 1/2 year old dachshund Venice was heartbroken. We decided to adopt another senior "sister" for him, and we all drove to Maryland in June to adopt 15 year old Gracie, who had come into Dachshund Rescue of North America after losing her elderly previous owner. Venice and Gracie hit it off right away, and we were so happy for him, but sadly his age-related heart and kidney disease took him from us just 6 days later. Gracie has a long medical history (130 pages!) including two back surgeries, but thanks to our awesome veterinarian and a change of food and medications, she is now a happy and spry senior girl who acts much younger than her years, and loves going to work with me every day. We are always advocating for adopting the wonderful seniors - they return the love given to them 100 times over!
Gracie is wearing her Sunflower tag, in honor of Ukraine's courageous battle for freedom.
