It's almost here! Halloween is on the horizon and the witching hour is drawing near. As the days tick by this week please keep in mind that your pets are affected by this holiday ritual as well. Most of us think of Halloween as a time of parties and pranks, but there are some steps every loving pet owner must take to ensure their furry friend is safe and out of harm's way this season. Whether its dog costumes, dangerous candy or lots of door bell ringing, problems can arise... along with the living dead. |
1. If your pooch is not too keen on putting on that full body dog costume, or just won't stand still long enough for you to try, then a seasonal bandana or collar may just do the trick.
2. To make sure tasty treats don't become harmful tricks, place all candy up on high shelves or counters, in closed cabinets, or generally out of your pet's reach.
3. If you can, skip giving out Xylitol and chocolate at your door this Halloween. You are most likely going to be distracted at times and running back and forth whenever the doorbell rings.
4. Make sure your dog is sporting up-to-date pet ID tags, in case he or she gets out the door in between visitors. We offer many custom dog tags with Halloween themes.
5. If your dog is constantly over-reactive, stressed out and scared, they might just not like Halloween. Just turn off your lights, plop a bowl of candy on the porch and skip the festivities. Your pet is worth it.
